In the time of change, during the roaring twenties, Epsilon Zeta Chapter was organized in 1924 as an outgrowth of the Beta Chapter on the campus of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. The chapter was the 5th chapter organized in Zetadom. Since its inception, the members of the chapter have always promoted worthy causes such as women’s suffrage issues, human and civil rights, economic empowerment opportunities, abolition of racial discrimination and prejudice, scholastic achievements, accomplishments in the academic and technical sciences, as well as the creative and performing arts. Its legacy stands as a standard-bearer of strides of accomplishment among its leadership of women who have been pace-setters.
Epsilon Zeta has been the sponsoring chapter for the Beta (Undergrad) Chapter at Morris Brown College and currently sponsors Lambda Nu Chapter at Georgia State University. The chapter is home to many women who are leaders in their field and change agents in their communities since the chartering of the chapter.
Our members are actively engaged in various professional organizations, in leadership roles in their careers, and strongly engaged in community service. The chapter has produced state directors, regional directors, and national leadership. State Directors beginning with Soror Sadye W. Potter, followed by Dr. Julia Glass, Dr. Myrtice Taylor, and Soror Myra Reese.
One national thrust of Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. is the Stork’s Nest which was birthed out of the Epsilon Zeta Chapter. The chapter membership has advocated the efforts of action-oriented groups and agencies including the YWCA, NAACP, Urban League, UNCF, Red Cross, March of Dimes, Pan-Hellenic Council, National Council of Negro Women, and the Voters’ League. Additionally, the chapter hosts its annual Sadye Watson Potter Scholarship Luncheon wherein the chapter awards scholarships to deserving youth to help them pursue their dreams through higher education. Notably, the Sadye Watson Potter Scholarship is named in honor of Triumphant Soror Sadye W. Potter who was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated for eighty-five years. During her many decades in the organization, she held several leadership positions.
